Application Responses
We believe Jesus Christ is the living Son of God. We believe He was God Incarnate while on earth. He was supernaturally conceived by the Holy Spirit. We believe He lived, worked, and ministered without sin. We believe He was crucified, buried, rose, and ascended into heaven, and that He will come again and will establish God’s kingdom forever.
We believe that it is the church's responsibility and opportunity to care for the orphans and widows, giving them the privilege to experience the love of the Father daily as we care, provide and protect. We exist to instill hope in children who have only known the intense instability of foster care by emulating the unconditional love of a healthy family to them. House of Providence pursues our most broken children in foster care with the love of Jesus Christ. Through evidence-based strategies, a family environment, and a standard of excellence that communicates the value we see in each little life we get to serve, we create a space for Jesus to overwhelm their hearts with His perfect love that transforms their lives–showing them they are not alone, they are not orphans, but they are beloved sons and daughters of the King. Healed by the love of God, we get to watch these children overcome every statistic and label that says they should fail and remain forever broken; they find forever families and leave the foster care system permanently at rates the status quo in foster care would say are impossible.
Grant funds will be used to fund the startup of Providence Academy. Providence Academy is a K-8, holistic, year-round, trauma-informed school for children with extreme social, emotional, and behavioral needs due to trauma and foster care experience. For nearly a decade, we have used this educational model to revolutionize outcomes for the children residing at House of Providence. So many have been able to overcome academic chasms to not only catch up but outperform their peers with no foster care experience. We know that academic performance is linked to some of the most important outcome metrics–and those who are left behind are often left in destitution as adults. That’s why we are extending our academic model to more children in the community (60 students) with similar needs but maybe don’t need the inpatient care we provide at HOP. Many of these children are expelled from school after school until their parents have nowhere else to turn. When a child is able to be safely cared for in a school setting without the frequent suspensions or expulsions that are so common for these kids, it supports the parents’ ability to work. For parents of foster and adoptive kids, this even impacts their ability to maintain placement of their child. The preservation of these families intervenes in a generational cycle of traumatized, broken families. Providence Academy will open up to these students and their families in the fall of 2024. Funds from this grant would cover a portion of the following depending on the amount awarded: the purchase of furniture/equipment for the classrooms, therapy room, administrative office, outdoor classroom, gymnasium, cafeteria, outdoor playground, and library; all curriculum materials for teachers and students; all tech equipment for the classrooms including projectors, smart whiteboards, and student laptops; as well as the cost of hiring a school management company ($60,000).
